We love you just as you are but want to help you grow into the person God wants you to be. You will not feel like an outsider at Sunbury UMC. We gather on Sundays mornings to worship Jesus Christ who paid the debt we owe for sin, as we are all sinners in need of grace.
Our contemporary and traditional worship services will not only make sense, but will inspire and encourage you. Child care is available for all services, as well as special activities.
The sanctuary is in the worship center, which is the south end of the building closest to Cherry Street. Our Sunday School rooms are in the Ministry Center, which is the north end of the building. Signs will help you find your way to restrooms and around the building, as will our friendly church members.
Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate are available before and between the services so you can visit with your friends and neighbors.
We invite you to learn more about our Sunday morning activities.
Inspiring worship to fit your life and lifestyle.
During worship, we connect with God and with one another. Each service has its own unique blend of music and environment. Whether you prefer contemporary, energetic music or a more traditional service with a choir and hand bells, we offer a variety of service styles and times to fit your schedule. Pastor Mike Mack and our dedicated worship team prepare every service with you in mind. If you love to learn or are looking for answers, encouragement and hope, you will find messages that both challenge and inspire you.
We have three services on Sunday morning | 8:30 - 9:30 & 11am
Although there are 3 styles of musical worship at SUMC, the messages (unless it is a special occasion) are all the same delivered by the same pastor/teacher.
8:30am is our Acoustic Worship service that takes place in the Sanctuary on the main level of the building. Enjoy the sounds of acoustic instruments like guitar, piano, world percussion, and more mixed in with vocal harmonies. If you connect with “unplugged” and/or sonically-folksy music, you’ll love this gathering.
9:30am is our Modern Worship service that takes place in our lower-level Multipurpose Room (lovingly called “The MPR”). This service features the full SUMWorship team. This is where you’ll hear electric guitars, the full drum-set, and things of the like. The songs used are similar to the 8:30 service, but tend to be newer and are, of course, all “plugged-in!” This is also a great service for the whole family. Kids stay with us through the musical worship portions, but exit with our Children’s Ministry team at the beginning of the sermon/message, returning before the service close. If you prefer to have your kids stay with you throughout the service, that is more than welcome! We have extra toys and coloring books at the back of the room if they feel antsy so you don’t have to miss anything.
Or choose our 11:00am traditional worship service with our choir leading the service. You’ll enjoy a blend of music, which includes hymns, spirituals, Handel, hand bells, and children’s choirs. You’ll also hear an inspiring sermon. If you grew up in a traditional denomination, you will feel at home at this service.
Free coffee, tea and refreshments are offered at all 3 worship gatherings.
Child care is offered at our 9:30 & 11am Sunday Worship Services. Nursery staff are certified in CPR and all adults have completed a thorough criminal background check. Child care rooms are located across from the sanctuary for newborn through kindergarten age children. We will text you during worship if necessary. Your child’s comfort and safety is our utmost concern. Child care is also offered for parents who are involved in various church activities. To find out if child care is available during your scheduled activity, please contact the church office at 740-965-3813.
Crossroads is our Sunday school program for children three years old through sixth grade. Classes are 9:30-10:30 a.m. and kids learn Bible lessons through art, science, food, music, games and much more. We offer many fun ways to learn about God’s amazing love! Each class has a designated room where the kids will gather each week, as well as teachers and volunteers to give the lesson that is prepared for them.
Sunday School begins after Labor Day in September and runs through May. In the months where there is a fifth Sunday, Sunday School classes do not meet and families are encouraged to enjoy worship together.
