Sunbury UMC has deep roots in this community. We began more than two hundred years ago, a short while before Sunbury became a village. We love our community, we love Jesus, and we love people. SAVING GRACE
What We Believe
We believe in one true, holy and living God. He has revealed himself to us in three distinct forms: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We believe in God’s redeeming love and the mystery of salvation through Jesus Christ. We believe the Bible is the primary authority over our faith and practice.
One God – Revealed in three distinct persons
We affirm that God is the everlasting Creator of the universe. He made mankind in his image to be in relationship with him. He is infinite in wisdom, power, love, and goodness. He is one God at the same time he is three persons: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Jesus is our Lord and Savior
Jesus is the Word of God and is of one substance as the Father. He took the form of man to sacrifice himself for the sins of the world. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born to a virgin. He lived a perfectly sinless life and died to give eternal life to those who believe in him and confess that he is Lord.
The Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is God’s presence with us. Also one in substance with God, as Jesus explained, “…(the) Spirit of Truth proceeds from the Father” (John 15:26). The Holy Spirit is our counselor, guidance and strength. Jesus told his disciples, “You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you” (Acts 1:8).

We are a church that believes in Jesus & loves God and people
Jesus came to save us from death and give eternal by becoming a perfect sacrifice to pay for our sins. There is no greater love and no greater gift. God’s love and mercy are bountiful and we believe in living every day for his glory. We love people because we love God – because God first loved us. God created all people in his image, and he calls us to love and serve one another.
